SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer plays to use recently signed tight end Tim Tebow in a Taysom Hill-like role with Jacksonville, according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini.
The NFL insider discussed Tebow’s role with the Jaguars during a appearance on ESPN’s Get Up! on Thursday, May 27.
“There are people in camp right now who strongly believe the reason why Urban Meyer brought Tim Tebow in is not to play tight end, but actually to use him in that utility role, that Taysom Hill role that we see Sean Payton use in New Orleans,” Russini said. “In terms of comparing the two, we always talk about on this show how much Sean Payton loves Taysom Hill. It’s been very obvious over the years. That same kind of love is what Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer have between each other. It could be a very similar situation, but in terms of football, this is something we could be seeing.”
Meyer is entering his first season as an NFL coach.
Tebow reunited with Meyer, his college coach at Florida, when he signed with Jacksonville in May.
“He looks great,” Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said of Tebow on the AP Pro Football Podcast. “He’s just a guy that you want to be around. Character is awesome. Had a few conversations with him and I can already tell, and [he’s] just a hard worker. No one is going to work harder than him. Those are the kind of guys you want in your locker room and you want to be around every day. And then I’m excited to see what he can do on the field as well. We got in a few days and he looks great. He’s in awesome shape.”
Taysom Hill
Hill, a Swiss Army knife player for the Saints, like Tebow, starred at quarterback in college. The former BYU quarterback has served as a backup in New Orleans for the past four seasons. Hill received his first opportunities as a starting quarterback during the 2020 campaign.
Last season, Hill completed 72.7 percent of his passes for 928 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.
In his career, Hill has thrown for 1,047 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. He’s also run the ball 151 times for 11 touchdowns. Hill has hauled in 30 receptions for 336 yards and seven touchdowns.

Hill is slated to battle Jameis Winston for the Saints’ starting quarterback job in 2021.
Tim Tebow in the NFL
Unlike Hill, Tebow is no longer projected to play quarterback in the NFL.
Tebow last played for the New York Jets in 2012. He was a member of the New England Patriots’ practice squad in 2013 and the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice roster in 2015.
Following his first stint in the league, Tebow attempted a career in Major League Baseball. He played in the New York Mets’ minor league system, but never received the majors.
Tim Tebow is not Taysom Hill:

As a quarterback in the NFL, Tebow threw for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions with a 47.9 percent completion rate.
On the ground, Tebow carried the ball 197 times for 989 yards and 12 touchdowns.
