SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Runnin’ Utes guard Pelle Larsson has entered his name in to the NCAA Transfer Portal after one season in SLC.

This came as a bit of a shock to many after Pelle Larsson went into the portal two months after Craig Smith was hired as the head coach of Utah basketball.

Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported the news on Thursday of Larsson going into the portal.

The Nacka, Sweden native started in 18 of the 25 games he played in, while averaging 8.2 points and 3.2 assists. He shot 46 percent from the field, 46 percent from the three-point line and 88 percent at the free throw line, missing just seven free throws.

Larsson had tremendous upside with the Utes due to his ability to run an offense as a point guard, while shooting the ball like a two-guard and even playing the three if they wanted to play a three-guard lineup due to his 6’5 frame.

He is the fifth player to leave the program since they moved on from Larry Krystkowiak following 10 seasons as head coach. Larsson joins Timmy Allen (Texas), Alfonso Plummer (Illinois), Ian Martinez (Maryland) and Jordan Kellier (undecided).

The guards on Utah’s roster currently includes Rylan Jones, Rollie Worster, David Jenkins, Marco Anthony, Gabe Madsen and Jaxon Brenchley.

Utah assistant coach Eric Peterson told KSL Sports last week that the Runnin’ Utes had two scholarships available but that number will now go to three with Larsson’s departure.
