Menéndez, 27, has scored 2 goals and 2 assists in 9 appearances for Independiente this season playing predominantly as a left-winger. His career has largely been played in Argentina, however, he did play three years in Spain with Sevilla. Unfortunately, during his time in Spain, Menéndez never was able to see first-team action and instead played for Sevilla B where he appeared in 54 games scoring 4 goals.
The news of his interest has sparked conversation surrounding the club’s love affair with wingers this offseason. If Menéndez does make his way to RSL, he would become the second winger signed this offseason and the fourth attacking threat signed by the club over the past 4 months.
Clearly, the club, led by the front office and coaching staff, has put an emphasis on becoming more dangerous going forward. Menéndez could certainly assist in doing so.
Nonetheless, the waiting game will continue as we hold our breath collectively to see if Menéndez does eventually make it to RSL. In the meantime, RSL has business to take care of on the pitch as they prepare to host Sporting Kansas City in the home opener.
Last week, RSL silenced their critics by beating Minnesota United on the road and grasping 3 points in the process.
