SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake winger Anderson Julio opened his MLS scoring account with a blast in the first half of the season opener.

In the 31st minute of the 2021 season opener on the road against Minnesota United, Anderson Julio scored the first goal of the year for Real Salt Lake.

The goal came when Julio had the ball in attacking position when the ball went to Rubio Rubin. Rubin tripped at the top of the box but Julio recovered and blasted from about 15 feet away from the goal, which traveled far right post.

It’s the first goal from Julio in his short MLS career.

Julio joined the team during the offseason after playing 20 games with Liga MX club Atletico San Luis last season. Before that, he spent three seasons with LDU, playing in 109 games and scoring 23 goals.

RSL and Julio had been in contact multiple years ago prior to his move to Liga MX. It has become apparent that the communication between Julio’s team and RSL continued throughout his experience in Mexico.
