The trio of quarterbacks that spent time with Wilson are considered among BYU’s greatest players of all-time.
Young, Detmer, and McMahon were each drafted into the NFL following their time in Provo.
Wilson will become BYU’s first quarterback to get drafted since John Beck was taken during the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
It will be the 12th time in history that a BYU quarterback has been drafted.
Wilson will be the fourth BYU quarterback taken in the NFL Draft since Ty Detmer was picked in 1992.
During his time in college and in the pre-draft process, Wilson has leaned on the experience of these former quarterback.
In an NFL Draft special, QB21, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit interviewed Wilson and Young.

The three broke down Wilson’s game and what’s in store for him in the NFL.
“You love the nuances of offensive philosophy and thought. So that will lead you in the right direction, no matter where you go,” Young told Wilson during QB21. “The one thing about Peyton Manning that I really appreciated is everything, every blitz, every formation; it was reflexive on the field. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, let me go back and think about that for a second.’ Everything is reflexive because he was ingrained in the data of football, and that’s why you love it. So you’re in great shape there.”
2021 NFL Draft
Wilson will find out which team he’ll play for during the 2021 NFL Draft in April.
The draft is scheduled to be held in Cleveland, Ohio from April 29-May 1.
