SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former UNLV guard David Jenkins Jr. announced that he will be transferring to Utah basketball after two seasons with the Rebels.

David Jenkins Jr. is the second player to transfer to Utah since Craig Smith took over as head coach at the end of March.

Jenkins announced his decision via Twitter on Sunday afternoon, saying “they say it’s uncomfortable when you transition but beautiful when you getting riches.”

The Tacoma, Washington native played 25 games with 19 starts for the Runnin’ Rebels during the 2020-21 season, while averaging 15.2 points per game. Jenkins also shot 41 percent from the field and 43 percent from the three-point line.

He began his career at South Dakota State during the 2017-18 season. He was named the Summit League Freshman of the Year. In his second season, he started all 32 games for the Jackrabbits, posting 19.7 points per game.

When T.J. Otzelberger left South Dakota State to be the head coach at UNLV, Jenkins transferred to play for him in Las Vegas. Jenkins had to sit out the 2019-20 due to the NCAA transfer rules.

Jenkins joins former Cincinnati combo guard Gabe Madsen as players to transfer to the University of Utah over the last three weeks. The tie to Utah for Jenkins is that he was coached by DeMarlo Slocum at UNLV, who is now on Craig Smith’s staff.

The Runnin’ Utes have four players from this past season that are currently in the transfer portal, including Timmy Allen, Alfonso Plummer, Ian Martinez and Jordan Kellier.
