Donovan Mitchell Carries Jazz To Victory Over Kings With Huge Second Half

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – NBA All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell led the Utah Jazz to a victory with a massive performance in the second half against the Sacramento Kings.

The Jazz hosted the Kings at Vivint Arena on Saturday, April 10.

Mitchell score 37 points or more for the third straight game and carried the Jazz to a 128-112 win over the Kings.

The fourth-year guard scored 30 of his 42 points over the final 24 minutes of action.

He helped the Jazz close the game on a 19-5 run over the last five minutes.

After the win, the crowd at Vivint Arena chanted to Mitchell, “M-V-P, M-V-P, M-V-P.”

Mitchell has scored at least 37 points in each of Utah’s last three contests, including a pair of 40-point performances.

During the three-game stretch, the Jazz own a 2-1 record and Mitchell has scored 120 points.

Mitchell’s first half performance was the opposite of his final two quarters of play. During the first and second quarters, the guard shot 3-14 from the field.

Although his shot wasn’t falling, Mitchell found another way to be effective β€” the charity stripe.

Mitchell went 6-8 on foul shots during the first half and finished the contest 15-17 on free throws.

In addition to his game-high 42 points, Mitchell had three rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block.

He posted a plus-nine rating during 35 minutes on the court.

Utah Jazz

The Jazz had a remarkable turnaround in the second half after they trailed the Kings by six points at halftime.

Utah outscored Sacramento by 12 points in the third quarter and 10 points in the fourth quarter.

The Jazz ended the game shooting 45.5 percent overall and 36.0 percent from downtown.

Mike Conley supported Mitchell with 26 points on 8-14 field goals. Conley also had six boards, four assists, and one steal.

Jordan Clarkson missed his second straight came due to an ankle sprain, which required Joe Ingles to carry Utah’s second unit.

Ingles poured in 20 points on 6-11 shooting. Five of Ingles’ field goals were triples.

Sacramento Kings

The Kings were held to 47.7 percent shooting for the game and 33.3 percent from distance.

De’Aaron Fox led the Kings with 30 points.

Richaun Holmes added 25 points, 21 of which came during the first half.

Sacramento fell to 22-31 on the season with the result.

Up Next

With the win, the Jazz improved their NBA-best record to 40-13, including 24-2 at home. It was Utah’s 24th consecutive home win.

The Jazz are the first team in the league to reach 40 wins this season.

Utah’s next game is against the Washington Wizards on Monday, April 12 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on AT&T SportsNet and 97.5 FM.
