SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell forced a steal to set up an easy layup during the opening minutes of Utah’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Jazz hosted the Blazers at Vivint Arena on Thursday, April 8.

With 9:50 left in the first quarter, Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic committed a turnover on a bad pass. Portland’s Norman Powell took the ball to mid-court where he was met by Mitchell.

The fourth-year Jazz guard didn’t let Powell proceed further and swiped at the ball until he came away with a steal.

Mitchell took the ball and dribbled towards the hoop on a one-man fast break for an easy layup.

Mitchell’s bucket gave the Jazz a quick 9-3 lead.

During the first 3:02 of game time, Mitchell got off to a quick start and scored nine points on 4-5 field goals. He shot 1-1 from three-point range.

Mitchell also had three rebounds and one steal in the opening minutes.

The All-Star helped Utah to an 11-5 advantage with 8:58 remaining in the quarter.

Utah’s game against Portland is broadcast on AT&T SportsNet and 97.5 FM.
