SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Governor and Utah State Aggie fan Spencer Cox reacted to this morning’s news reports of former Aggies basketball coach Craig Smith making the move to the University of Utah.
“Not gonna lie, this one hurts a little,” Cox began.
Not gonna lie, this one hurts a little. But as I told Mark Harlan this morning, I couldn’t be happier for Craig and that we get to keep him in state. Ute fans, I promise he’s even better than you think. Congratulations—you’re going to win a lot of games. (Oh, and #GoAggies) https://t.co/AvCafs6ecp

It appears Cox already knew the news after speaking with Utah Athletic Director Mark Harlan.
“But as I told Mark Harlan this morning, I couldn’t be happier for Craig and that we get to keep him in state. Ute fans, I promise he’s even better than you think. Congratulations – you’re going to win a lot of games. (Oh, and #GoAggies),” the tweet finished.
Cox’s passion for being an Aggie fan runs deep, he attended the school along with his wife, Abby. They started their family in Logan, according to his official website.

About Craig Smith
Smith led the Utah State Aggies to the NCAA tournament this season and a Mountain West Championship last season.
Smith is a rising star in the profession. Since becoming the head coach at South Dakota beginning in 2014, it looks like all Smith does is win. When he arrived in Logan, he quickly revived the Aggies basketball program and led the team to three straight Mountain West Tournament Championship game appearances, including two titles.
Smith has quickly adjusted to recruiting on the west coast and is bound to take a job at a higher level program sooner rather than later. His name has been in the rumor mill, linked to the vacant head coaching job at Oklahoma.
