SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – An NFL scout said that former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson will be selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft following an impressive Pro Day performance, according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler.
Wilson threw during BYU’s 2021 Pro Day on Friday, March 26.
After the event, Brugler received a text from an NFL scout who was in attendance.
“Draft starts at 3. Wilson going 2,” Brugler tweeted of the message he received.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is widely projected to be the No. 1 pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
New Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer attended Lawrence’s Pro Day. Meyer was not in attendance for Wilson’s.
New York Jets
The New York Jets currently own the No. 2 pick in April.
Prior to Wilson’s throwing session, the San Francisco 49ers traded up to the No. 3 pick and gave a haul to the Miami Dolphins. The trade showed what a potential trade up to No. 2 would cost an organization.
New York had three members of its organization in Provo to see Wilson throw. Jets general manager Joe Douglas, head coach Robert Saleh, and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur attended BYU’s Pro Day.

During the event, Douglas and Wilson had a conversation on the field of BYU’s Indoor Practice Facility.

After Wilson threw, he was asked about what interactions he’s had with the Jets throughout the draft process.
“Great staff, love those guys. Joe Douglas is a great guy and it was good to see him out here. They got a good thing going,” Wilson said.
