Southern Utah Cruises Past Cal Poly, Picks Up First Win Of Spring Season

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds flew past the Cal Poly Mustangs to earn their first win of the spring football season.
The Mustangs hosted the T-Birds at Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Saturday, March 13.
SUU used a big first half to come away with a 34-24 win.
The Thunderbirds opened the game with 10 points in the first quarter and owned a 10-7 advantage after one.

In the second quarter, Southern Utah’s offensive exploded took a 31-7 lead into the locker room at halftime thanks for 24 unanswered points.

Despite allowing the Mustangs to score 17 points over the final two quarters, a field goal helped SUU stretch its lead to a final of 34-24.

With the win, the Thunderbirds improved to 1-2 on the season and 1-1 on the road.

Southern Utah’s next game is against the Idaho Vandals on Saturday, March 27 at 1 p.m. (MDT).
