UVU’s Aimaq Named WAC Player Of The Year, Defensive Player Of The Year

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Western Athletic Conference named Utah Valley center Fardaws Aimaq as the league’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
Aimaq was recognized for his impressive sophomore season on Tuesday, March 9.
This season, Aimaq is averaging 14.5 points, 15.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.7 blocks in 21 games.

The center currently leads all NCAA Division I players in rebounds this season. He is the first player since 198- to average over 15 boards per contest.
Aimaq is the second Utah Valley player to receive WAC Player of the Year honors. He is the first Wolverine to earn the WAC’s Defensive Player of the Year award. He was also honored as First Team All-WAC.
Other WAC honors for Utah Valley
In addition to Aimaq, other Wolverines received WAC All-Conference honors.
UVU’s Jamison Overton, Evan Cole, and Trey Woodbury were also honored by the conference.

Overton earned Second Team All-WAC honors after leading the Wolverines with 15.9 points per game.
Cole was named to the Honorable Mention All-WAC team. He is averaging 11.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest.
Woodbury also received Honorable Mention honors after averaging 14.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and Â3.9 assists.
Utah Valley in 2020-21
Utah Valley posted a 9-4 record in WAC play to become co-champions of the conference.
The Wolverines currently sit at an overall record of 11-10 this season.

UVU will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming WAC tourney.
Utah Valley will play the winner of the game between No. 3 New Mexico State and No. 6 UT Rio Grande Valley on on Friday, March 12 at 9 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on ESPN+.
