PROVO, Utah – BYU football has a new face in an analyst role on the staff. Former Utah running back Jordan Howard is now a graduate assistant with the Cougars.

Howard last played with Utah in 2017, where he was awarded a scholarship his senior season with the Utes. He was a member of Utah’s leadership council and was roommates his senior year with Buffalo Bills RB Zach Moss.

Before playing at Utah, Howard was a JUCO transfer at Riverside Community College. As his playing career in college, Howard began his coaching career at Riverside CC, where he was recently the running backs position coach on the staff under former San Diego State head coach Tom Craft.

Howard formally announced his role at BYU on Saturday via social media, where he tweeted, “Honored to represent Brigham Young University and @BYUfootball! Time to go to work! #GOCougs”

In Howard’s first two years as a player at Utah in 2015 and 2016, Utah’s offensive coordinator was Aaron Roderick, who now holds that same title at BYU.

Changes to BYU football staff in 2021

BYU has had a few changes to some of their football staff positions in less visible roles. Graduate assistants Matt Mitchell and Tanner Jacobson took new positions. Mitchell joined Jeff Grimes and Eric Mateos at Baylor, where he is now a quality control coach. Jacobson is an assistant coach on former BYU player Zac Erekson’s staff at Snow College.

Joining the staff as a graduate assistant this year is former BYU tight end/fullback Kyle Griffitts.

Strength and conditioning coach A.J. Middleton took a football sports performance position at Stanford. Former BYU defensive end Trajan Pili has joined the Cougars as a strength and conditioning assistant under the direction of head strength coach Nu’u Tafisi.

BYU concluded week one of their spring practices this past week. The Cougars have 11 practices remaining before wrapping up the spring season on March 26.
