Tony Finau Catches Fire During Second Round Of WGC Workday Championship

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau caught fire during the second round of the WGC Workday Championship and is currently tied for fifth place.
Atop The Leaderboard
Finau, 31, began the day two shots behind the leader Mathew Fitzpatrick but quickly climbed the leaderboard after pouring three birdies through the first five holes.
For the majority of the round, Finau and Australian Cameron Smith went back and forth atop the leaderboard.
Finau teed off the tenth tee and through his first nine holes had five birdies, one bogey and three par’s to make the turn at four-under-par.
Then, during his final nine holes he remained in control of his game with a birdie on hole three.
Finau played the first two rounds alongside Jon Rahm and Hideki Matsuyama who enter the weekend in a tie for 43rd and 12th respectively.
Over the past month, Finau has finished in second place on three consecutive occasions, including a nail-biting loss to Max Homa in a playoff last week at Riviera Country Club.

Currently, Finau is ranked as the 13th best golfer in the world according to the World Golf Rankings and sits in sixth place in the FedEx Cup standings.
Finau will tee off at 11:35 p.m. MST from the first tee and will be playing with Webb Simpson.
