SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake defender Aaron Herrera received his first national team cap this evening as the U.S. national team demolished Trinidad & Tobago 7-0 in Orlando, Florida.
It was the third consecutive game in which the USMNT scored at least five goals, something that has never been done before by the U.S. senior team.
It has been a big week for Herrera, who was called into his first senior team camp after a dominant 2020 campaign with RSL in which he was voted the club’s Defender of the Year.
An hour before kick-off, Herrera was announced as the starting right-back for his country, he wore the number two.

Throughout the game, Herrera was often found flying up and down the right side of the pitch. His work ethic and quality were on full display. On multiple occasions, Herrera delivered a cross into the area and found his teammates. However, nobody was able to credit Herrera with an assist.
His night concluded when he was subbed in the 78th minute.
Herrera joined a shortlist of RSL Academy products to represent the USMNT following in the footsteps of Corey Baird, Richie Ledezma, and Sebastian Soto.
The USMNT roster consisted of only MLS players.
RSL Aplenty
Herrera was not the only RSL product on the pitch, teammate Alvin Jones represented Trinidad & Tobago. Midway through the second half, Jones had a penalty saved by U.S. goalkeeper Matt Turner.
Furthermore, newly signed RSL player Noah Powder came off the bench for Trinidad in the 82nd minute.
