SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Joe Ingles passed John Stockton to become the Utah Jazz all-time leader in three-pointers made Friday night against the Dallas Mavericks.
The Australian guard connected on his second three-point of the game with 6:15 left in the first quarter to put the Jazz up 18-6. Ingles made back-to-back threes that led to him breaking the record. He was up to 10 points in the game.
The shot marked Ingles 846th made three-pointer, passing Stockton’s 845 career makes during his Hall of Fame career.

Ingles passing Stockton is a stark reminder of the radical difference between the modern game and the era in which the Jazz were led by Stockton and Karl Malone.

It took Ingles little more than six seasons, and 493 games to pass the Jazz legend. Stockton meanwhile required 1504 games to hit his mark.
Stockton’s final made three in a Jazz uniform came on April 11, when the guard made his only attempt of the game with 1:37 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Even Ingles found it hard to believe that he climbed the Jazz all-time list so rapidly.
“Six and a half, seven years ago, I was under nonguaranteed [contract] and trying to make the team,” Ingles remembered. “If you told me then that there’d be a chance that I’d break any of those guys’ records, Karl or John, those guys are obviously pretty huge to this organization, I definitely would have laughed in your face.”
Here's a crazy number for you @utahjazz fans.
Joe Ingles has more made three-pointers this season in 14 games than John Stockton did the entire final year of his career.
Ingles has 34 in 347 minutes, Stockton had 29 in 2275 minutes.

Ingles averages 1.7 makes on 4.2 three-point attempts per game for his career. Stockton meanwhile averaged 0.6 makes per game on 1.5 attempts.
It will be a short while before any other Jazz player catches Stockton. Guard Donovan Mitchell is the closest active Jazz player and sits at 606 made threes, 239 fewer than the legend. At his current pace of 2.7 made threes per game, Mitchell will pass Stockton early next season.
