Finau and Donovan will be going up against country music star Jake Owen and fellow PGA Tour pro Paul Casey to help raise $1 million for local charities. The event will take place at PGA West Private Clubhouse & Golf Courses in La Quinta, California.
The 9-hole modified alternate shot exhibition will be hosted by Mickelson. “Each team will be representing a charitable initiative with winnings donated via The Mickelson Foundation, the tournament’s host foundation. Finau and Donovan will play for ‘Youth Development and Education’ charities while Casey and Owen will play for ‘Health and Wellness’ charities,” PGA.com states.
Furthermore, Mickelson will participate throughout the match at his own discretion through “Phil’s Challenges” where he will voluntarily take shots to help raise money for the respected charities. On the par 3 17th hole on the Alcatraz course, every member, including Mickelson, will have the chance to make a hole-in-one to raise a further million dollars.
Since its introduction in 1960 as the Palm Springs Golf Classic, the tournament has generated more than $60 million for numerous nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting Coachella Valley residents.
The exhibition match can be watched on The Golf Channel starting at 3 p.m.
Career Builder Challenge
Today’s event will be immediately followed by the Career Builder Challenge. An annual stop on the PGA Tour.
The tournament features 7 of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings, a dozen major champions and 14 PGA Tour winners.
