PROVO, Utah – BYU soccer midfielder Mikayla Colohan was selected by the Orlando Pride at pick No. 14 of the NWSL Draft.

One of the top players in NCAA Women’s Soccer in 2019, Colohan was a leader on a BYU team that completed the first undefeated regular season in school history.

Colohan was a semifinalist in 2019 for the MAC Hermann Trophy, an award given to soccer’s top player. She was named WCC Player of the Year for the 15 goal season.

An attacking midfielder, Colohan joins an Orlando Pride franchise that finished in ninth place in the Challenge Cup and eighth in the Community Shield during the 2020 season.

Mikayla Colohan is the seventh BYU Soccer player to be selected all-time

“I can’t wait for the opportunity,” Colohan said to SB Nation after being drafted. “I’m just excited to be a part of that city. Looking forward to it a ton and I just hope to bring my best. I hope anything that I can provide for the team and any assists that they need. I hope that I’m able to provide and I can’t wait. I’m looking forward to it.”

Colohan is the first BYU player to be selected in the NWSL Draft since Taylor Isom (Utah Royals FC) and Nadia Gomes (Orlando Pride) were drafted in 2018. The 5-foot-8 former Davis Dart star is the seventh BYU player all-time since the NWSL began in 2012 to be selected.

Colohan’s cousin, Cloee, a BYU great, was selected at the same draft position seven years ago at No. 14 to the Western New York Flash.

With the WCC postponing the 2020 soccer season to the spring, Colohan has the option to play her senior year at BYU before joining the Orlando Pride. The NWSL calendar kicks off on February 1 when players report to training camp.

BYU soccer begins its conference-only spring season on February 20 when they travel to face San Diego.
