SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell and center Rudy Gobert connected on back-to-back dunks in the first quarter against the Spurs.
The first play was when Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell drove to the rim and dished it behind him to the slashing Rudy Gobert. Utah’s big man caught the ball and reached out for the dunk next to former Utah Utes and current Spurs center Jakob Poeltl.
Next time down the floor, Gobert set a screen for Mitchell. As Mitchell went around the screen, Gobert slashed to the rim and Mitchell threw the lob for the big man to finish the dunk with two hands. That gave the Jazz an 11-4 lead over the Spurs with 9:23 left in the first quarter. The back-to-back plays by Mitchell and Gobert led to San Antonio calling a timeout.

Mitchell knocked down a three-pointer earlier in the game and Bojan Bogdanovic had 4 points to go with the two dunks by Gobert. DeMar DeRozan and Keldon Johnson scored the two buckets for San Antonio.
In Utah’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers on New Year’s Day, Mitchell had 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists on 6-of-14 field goal shooting. Gobert recorded 12 points and 9 rebounds in just 24 minutes while dealing with foul trouble. This is the first meeting of the season between the Utah Jazz and the San Antonio Spurs.
The Jazz are on their first stop of a seven game road trip and 8 of their next 9 games being away from Vivint Smart Home Arena.
