Utah Redshirt Freshman Guard Brendan Wenzel Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah basketball redshirt freshman guard Brendan Wenzel entered his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
KSL Sports has confirmed the reports that the Utah guard Brendan Wenzel is in the portal. Wenzel is a 6’6 guard from San Antonio, Texas who played in two games this season for the Runnin’ Utes.
He appeared in Utah’s season opening win over the Washington Huskies, recording a rebound and an assist in four minutes on the floor. Wenzel also played in the Utes’ last game against Idaho, finishing with two rebounds on 0-for-2 shooting from the field in seven minutes.
Wenzel is the first player for Utah to enter the portal this season. During the last off-season, they had two players go into the portal, including Both Gach and Matt Van Komen.

Coming out of high school in the 2019 class, Wenzel committed to UTEP and enrolled at the school before getting a release and committing to the Utes on April 18, 2019. He was a three-star prospect that was the No. 36 recruit in the state of Texas and No. 96 shooting guard in the nation.
UTEP, Utah and SMU were the schools that offered Wenzel a scholarship out of high school.
The Runnin’ Utes are scheduled to play the UCLA Bruins in Southern California on Thursday, December 31 at 5 p.m. MST on FS1.
