SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A memorial is beginning to form outside of the Utah football facility to honor the life of running back Ty Jordan.
The Ty Jordan memorial began to form on Sunday with flowers, posters and Utah memorabilia right under the giant silver “U” on the front of the facility. The poster has a picture of Jordan running with the football and it said “LLTJ #22.”
The Utes’ freshman running back passed away on Christmas night at the age of 19.
Saturday morning, officials with the Denton Police Department said a person that they have yet to identify was accidentally shot by a gun discharge Friday evening. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Utah football confirmed the tragic passing of Jordan shortly after 10 a.m. MST on Saturday morning.
The medical examiner’s office in Texas confirmed that Jordan died from a gunshot wound.

Jordan’s passing comes following a remarkable season for the University of Utah. Jordan rushed for 597 yards and 6 touchdowns on 83 carries. He averaged 7.2 yards per carry. Despite his smaller frame, opposing defenders had no answer for the dynamic playmaker.
