Trick Pass To Zach Wilson Leads To Third BYU Football TD In Boca Raton Bowl

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – BYU scored their third touchdown in the first quarter that was set up by a trick pass to quarterback Zach Wilson.

With 1:27 left in the opening quarter of the Boca Raton Bowl, BYU wide receiver Neil Pau’u threw a 16-yard pass to Wilson. Two plays later, Wilson ran in his second rushing touchdown of the game and the 11th of the season. The Cougars had a 21-0 lead over UCF.

Wilson also threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Rex off of a flea flicker earlier in the quarter.

At the end of the first quarter, BYU racked up 270 yards of total offense, 220 passing and 50 rushing. Their defense held the Knights to just 85 yards of offense, 21 passing and 64 rushing. Wilson completed 11 of his 14 pass attempts for 204 yards and one TD, while running the ball twice for 19 yards and two scores.

That drive was started with a pass completion from Wilson to running back Lopini Katoa, who hurdled a UCF defender before being pushed out of bounds. UCF’s Divaad Wilson was disqualified for targeting on that play. Then the trick play occurred before wide receiver Dax Milne ran for a 7-yard gain that set up Wilson’s rushing TD.
