SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Salt Lake City Marathon announced that they will go to a virtual format for the 2021 event.
They released the following statement on Tuesday morning.
“While we hoped to put on a fantastic live event in 2021, the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic and its vaccine rollout have forced us to move the event to 100% virtual format,” the statement read. “We are heartbroken that we can’t gather for a second year in a row. Our team has worked hard over the last few months to put together a fun and engaging virtual event that will allow us to celebrate the spirit of Salt Lake together, from afar. All participants that deferred from 2020 have been automatically registered for the 2021 Virtual Salt Lake City Marathon. Athletes will have the option to defer again to 2022 but must do so by January 10, 2021.”
The event was postponed in March when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the state of Utah. Then it was moved to a virtual event for the 2020 Salt Lake Marathon.
