CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds took down Bethesda 96-57 to win their seventh straight game.

The Thunderbirds started the season with a heartbreaking loss to Loyola Marymount at the buzzer before rattling off seven straight victories.

If Southern Utah wins their next game, they will have the longest winning streak in program history. They took a 38-25 lead into the halftime break against the Flames before outscoring them 58-32 in the second half to pick up the win.

“It was a good effort today,” SUU head coach Todd Simon said. “We wanted to be better defensively today than we were on Friday and I thought we did a good job on that end of the floor. Offensively, we turned it over too much, but some of that was us trying to be unselfish and trying to make too many plays for each other.”

Five SUU players scored in double figures led by Maizen Fausett with 23 points and 8 rebounds, while shooting 7-of-10 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the three-point line. Dre Marin and Tevian Jones each scored 13 points apiece.

John Knight III notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Nick Fleming scored 10 points off the bench. Southern Utah shot 50 percent from the field (33-65), 44 percent from downtown (13-29) and 70 percent at the free throw line (17-24).

The Thunderbirds improved to 7-1 overall (2-0 in Big Sky). They will jump back into conference play with a two-game series at Montana State beginning on Thursday, December 31 at 2:30 p.m. MST and then on Saturday, January 2 at 12 p.m. MST. Both games can be seen on Pluto TV channel 1057.
