SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Austin FC elected to not draft any of the available Real Salt Lake players in the recent MLS Expansion Draft.
Austin FC was allowed five players to draft as the league assists the club ahead of its inaugural season in 2021.
RSL’s front office did not protect goalkeepers Zac McMath and Andrew Putna; defenders Alvin Jones, Ashtone Morgan, Nedum Onuoha (retired); midfielders Luke Mulholland, Justin Portillo; and forward Giuseppe Rossi.
However, none were selected by Austin FC allowing RSL to retain the rights to the eight players listed above.

The five players that were selected by Austin FC included San Jose Earthquakes striker Danny Hoesen, New York Red Bulls midfielder Jared Stroud, Nashville SC goalkeeper Brady Scott, LA Galaxy midfielder Joe Corona and Orlando City defender Kamal Miller.
However, shortly following the MLS expansion draft, Miller was traded by Austin FC to Montreal for General Allocation Money and the number 11 pick in the upcoming MLS Superdraft slated for January 2021.
