PROVO, Utah – Any thought of BYU quarterback Zach Wilson potentially opting out of a bowl game is not happening according to the star signal-caller.
Wilson addressed the media via Zoom call on Wednesday night and was asked if there were any chance he would opt out of BYU’s postseason bowl game, now that the New Year’s Six is expected to be off the table.
Zach Wilson plans to play in BYU’s bowl game
“Not at all,” said Wilson. “I’m here to ride, ride with my boys all the way through. That’s the goal, you know.”

Zach Wilson continued, “We started with this team back in my freshman year in 2018 and had a 7-6 year and another 7-6 year, now we’re finally doing some good things. I think it would show my kind of character if I dropped out. I would never do something like that to these guys. They mean the world to me, and I’m gonna give them everything I have and play. As long as I can and worry about everything else in the future.”
That future could consist of being an NFL Draft pick. Wilson, when asked by KSL Sports, said he hasn’t thought about the NFL right now and will make a decision at the season’s end.

Wilson has risen draft boards with his play this season, and mock drafts everywhere have Wilson as a first-round pick. Maybe even the No. 2 quarterback taken behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.
BYU will host San Diego State this weekend to close out the regular season, barring any late additions to the December 19th weekend schedule. The Cougars have a contract with ESPN to place them in an ESPN-owned bowl game in the postseason.
