SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU do-it-all defensive back Dayan Lake has signed a contract with the New England Patriots.

Lake, who is in his rookie season in the NFL, was previously with the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams cut Lake before the start of the regular season.

Lake’s agent, Evan Brennan, announced the signing for Lake to New England on his Instagram page.

Brennan wrote on the post, “This is personal. Not just because it’s @BYUfootball, my alma mater, but because Dayan and Madi Lake are such good people and friends. Congrats to Dayan as he heads to New England as their newest DB.”

This week the Patriots are in action against Lake’s old team, the L.A. Rams, for Thursday Night Football in California. Kickoff is at 6:20 p.m. (MT) on FOX.

Lake’s contract with the Patriots reportedly puts him on New England’s practice squad this season.

During his BYU career, Lake was a versatile prospect who played both cornerback and safety during his four years as a starter in Provo. In those four seasons, Lake piled up 203 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, two sacks, three forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, and 14 pass breakups. Lake also was a contributor on special teams as a returner.
