Real Salt Lake GM Elliot Fall Shares Unique Insight Into Downtrodden Club
Dec 8, 2020, 4:43 PM
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Real Salt Lake General Manager Elliot Fall addressed a number of different topical subjects with the guys from The RSL Show earlier this week.
2020 Has Been Hard
The global coronavirus pandemic has made the year 2020 very difficult. However, for Fall and the entire RSL organization those difficulties have been exaggerated following a number of scandals that have hurt the culture and brand of RSL.
The alleged misconduct by current owner Dell Loy Hansen and his Chief Business Officer Andy Carroll has had an effect on the entire organization. There is no running away from accusations of that magnitude.

“It’s been a whirlwind, it’s been a really tough year. It’s not over, we still have three and a half weeks of 2020 left and seeing as how 2020 has gone three and a half weeks is still plenty of time for things to happen,” Fall said. “But you know, the 2020 season was tough, and look it was disappointing. It was disappointing in a lot of ways.”
Bright Future
“What am I looking forward to?” Fall asked himself. “I am looking forward to getting better, honestly, I am looking forward to 2021 and what this club can be.”
The beauty of having a down year is that there is now room for growth. Certain players will hopefully regain the love and passion for the game again.
“Nobody had a perfect year, nobody did every single thing you’d want done the way you’d want it done but that’s life,” Fall continued. “With that said, I think there is a lot of opportunity for growth throughout the roster. We still have a lot of really good young pieces, we also have some good veteran pieces that we believe can still contribute.”
New Faces, New Blood
It has been well documented now that without a new owner, the chances of RSL signing a designated player this off season is slim. Fall confirmed that speculation by speaking directly on the matter.

“We aren’t going to sign any new designated players this off season,” Fall admitted. “But other than that we can bring players in. We have cap space, we have roster spots available to do all of that and that is what we are hard at work at.”
RSL is currently scouring the globe to find the best players available. Fall and his assistant General Manager Tony Beltran are working tirelessly to find the best players that will fit within the lockerroom.
Fall and the league office communicate multiple times a day. The league is well aware of the happening at RSL. The challenges that operating without an active owner brings and the league is helpful in overseeing the day to day procedures.
RSL needs to get better. Fall is well aware of that, which is why they are going to utilize every ounce of energy on making that happen. New faces and new players are required and now expected following the remarks made by Fall earlier this week.
Tony Beltran Wrote A Book
This isn’t any ordinary book either. Assistant GM Tony Beltran with some help from Fall sat down and worked on a rather large project this year.
“Tony (Beltran) put together a 50-page document about what it means to be a member of Real Salt Lake,” Fall confessed. “We don’t mean that as a player or as a staff member, it’s more the ethos and the connection with the club and who we are and who we want to be.”
Currently, staff members and players are patiently awaiting the document. Nobody besides Fall and Beltran has had access to the document, however, eventually it will be given to every member of the organization with the hope that it provides direction.
Fall also mentioned that he hopes the fanbase can feast their eyes on the document as well.
“Truthfully I think it is something our fans should see and I want our fans to embrace.”
