Barcello Leads BYU Basketball To Bounce Back Win Over St. John’s

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – BYU guard Alex Barcello helped the Cougars respond from their first loss of the season with a victory over the St. John’s Red Storm.
The Cougars and Red Storm played in the second game of the Roman Legends Classic on Wednesday, December 2.
After falling to the USC Trojans for their first loss of the season a day earlier, Barcello and the Cougars bounced back to the win column with a 74-68 win over St. John’s.
In a back-and-forth game, the senior guard led BYU with 20 points on 8-11 shooting, including 3-6 from three-point land.

Barcello had a full box score in the six-point win over the Red Storm. In addition to his scoring total, he had two rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
After the contest, Barcello was honored as Player of the Game.

During the loss to USC, the Cougars scored 20 points in the first half. Versus St. John’s, BYU put up 29 points during the first 20 minutes of action. The 29-23 halftime margin proved to be the difference as the Cougars and Red Storm each dropped 45 points in the second half.
BYU had five players score in double figures, including three starters.

Brandon Averette and Connor Harding supported Barcello in the starting lineup with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Gideon George led the Cougars’ second unit with a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Trevin Knell added 11 points while making three triples.
With the victory, BYU improved to 4-1 on the season.
BYU’s next game is against the Utah State Aggies on Saturday, December 5.
The Cougars and Aggies are slated to tip-off at 7 p.m. (MDT).
