PROVO, Utah – BYU football remains steady at No. 8 in both the Coaches and AP Top 25 polls, despite the College Football Playoff Committee’s low ranking at No. 14.
This was the first set of AP and Coaches poll rankings after the Playoff Committee released their initial Top 25 last Tuesday.

BYU is currently 9-0 with one regular-season game remaining. The Cougars return to action on Dec. 12 when they host San Diego State in Provo. But they are actively seeking additional opponents for Dec. 5 and Dec. 19 to improve their positioning for a New Year’s Six bowl game and potential climb in the major rankings.
BYU is one of three teams in the AP Top 25 that is 9-0. The other two are Notre Dame and Coastal Carolina from the Sun Belt Conference.
The next set of College Football Playing rankings will be released on Tuesday night. It will be interesting to see if the Playoff Committee decides to make significant changes to BYU’s ranking. Throughout the week, national pundits around the college football landscape have slammed the Playoff committee’s low ranking of BYU, and their head-scratching ranking for teams like Georgia at No. 9.
This is the fourth consecutive week that BYU has been ranked at No. 8 in both the AP and Coaches polls.
