Southern Utah Falls In Near Upset Of Loyola Marymount

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah men’s basketball team nearly knocked off the Loyola Marymount Lions for an upset in the Thunderbirds’ first game of the 2020-21 college basketball season.
The Lions hosted the T-Birds in Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 25.
After owning a 42-41 lead at halftime, Southern Utah nearly upset Loyola Marymount in a two-point loss, 85-83.
If not for an LMU buzzer-beater, the T-Birds and Lions would’ve gone to overtime.

The Thunderbirds had four players score in double figures, led by John Knight III.
Knight III had a game-high 19 points on 6-15 shooting.

Fellow SUU starters Maizen Fausett and Tevian Jones scored 14 and 17 points, respectively.
Harrison Butler led the Thunderbirds’ second-unit with 13 points.
Southern Utah shot 48.3 percent overall and 44 percent beyond the arc.

By comparison, Loyola Marymount shot 51.8 percent from the field, including 37.5 percent from distance.
The Thunderbirds’ next game is against the St. Katherine Firebirds on Saturday, November 28 at 1 p.m. (MDT).
