SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – FOX Sports talk show host Colin Cowherd believes that former BYU QB Taysom Hill is the “Duct Tape” for the Saints while Drew Brees is out.
Hill made his first NFL start at quarterback last week in the Saints’ 24-9 win over the Atlanta Falcons. On “The Herd,” Cowherd explained why Hill isn’t the future QB in the Big Easy.
“I’ve always said this about running quarterbacks, running quarterbacks work,” Cowherd said on Monday. “They just don’t last. But the element of surprise works, the Wildcat offense worked in this league for a year, hiking the ball to a running back worked. It didn’t last. Lamar Jackson worked, Colin Kaepernick worked, Tim Tebow won seven straight games. It doesn’t last, the league figures it out. If you look at the teams that won yesterday (Sunday). Their running backs ran in their quarterbacks threw, that’s what eventually works. But Taysom Hill was effective for a game because Sean Payton here isn’t making a decision for the future of the Saints. He’s making a decision for three weeks. Sean Payton wants to win three games and then Drew Brees is back.”

Hill Not Long Term Solution In New Orleans
Cowherd doesn’t think Hill is the starting quarterback of the future for the Saints because he believes the former BYU signal caller is a running QB.
“Saints have a really good defense but Taysom Hill runs, eats the clock takes the wear and tear off Alvin Kamara and doesn’t have a history of lots of mistakes like Jameis (Winston),” Cowherd stated. “There’s a reason duct tape in life works. Duct Tape buys you time until you get a solution for something or you can buy something or something gets fixed. Taysom Hill could very well just be the world’s best duct tape. All you want to do is win three games and Sean Payton for the record is now 6-0 using midseason backups. He knows what he’s doing.”
Hill completed 18 of his 23 pass attempts for 233 yards, while racking up 51 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in his first start on Sunday.
Better Than Tim Tebow
Cowherd compared Hill to one of the greatest quarterbacks in college football history, Tim Tebow. The problem with Tebow is that his style of play didn’t translate to a long career in the NFL.
“For three games, his (Payton) argument is Taysom Hill, element of surprise is a more athletic version of (Tim) Tebow,” Cowherd mentioned. “He’s a much better thrower of the football than Tebow. We’ve seen Lamar (Jackson) and (Colin) Kaepernick and Tebow. It catches people off guard. It takes months sometimes a year for people to figure it out. Tim Tebow won seven games in a row and couldn’t throw the ball, not close to Taysom Hill and Taysom is a much better athlete.”
Tebow was taken in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He started 14 games for the Broncos in two seasons. The former Heisman Trophy winner threw for 2,383 yards in two regular seasons and had 17 touchdowns through the air. On the ground, Tebow ran the ball 165 times for 887 yards and 12 TD’s during that span.
Tebow appeared in two playoff games for the Broncos, completing 19-of-47 passes for 452 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 63 yards and one score.
Hill and the Saints improved to 8-2 on the season. They will travel to Denver to face the Broncos on Sunday, November 29 at 2:05 p.m. MST on FOX.
