Utah Valley Basketball Season Opener Against Stanford Canceled Due To COVID-19

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley men’s basketball announced announced that their game against Stanford on Wednesday, November 25 is canceled due to COVID-19.
The decision was made after consultation with the Pac-12 Conference, Stanford leadership, Utah Valley University and the Western Athletic Conference.
Utah Valley had a positive COVID-19 test and subsequent contact tracing with their program which forced the game with the Cardinal to be canceled.

Utah Valley head coach Mark Madsen has a connection with Stanford as a player for the Cardinal from 1996-00 where he was an All-American. He helped Stanford to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four berth in 1998.
Last season in Mark Madsen’s first season as the head coach of the men’s team, the Wolverines went 11-19 overall and 5-10 in WAC play. The conference tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
Utah Valley’s next game is scheduled for Saturday, November 28 against BYU at the Marriott Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. MST and will be televised on BYUtv.
The women’s basketball team’s game against Utah that was scheduled for Saturday, November 28 has been canceled after a positive COVID-19 test in the Utes’ program.
