SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Social media exploded with both positive and negative takes after multiple reports surfaced that the New Orleans Saints would start former BYU star Taysom Hill at quarterback against the Atlanta Falcons.
On Friday, November 20, news began to surface that Hill would start over former NFL starting quarterback Jameis Winston as Drew Brees will miss the Saints (7-2) vs. Falcons (3-6) game due to injury.
Hill will reportedly get the first starting nod of his NFL career against the Falcons on Sunday, November 22.
After the reports came out, social media erupted with reactions to the Saints’ plans for the former BYU quarterback.

Last time a former #BYU QB started a game at QB in the NFL was John Beck in 2011 with the Washington Football Team.
Taysom’s first start at QB is coming up this Sunday.#BYUFootball @kslsports

This is going to be an incredible test to determine if Taysom Hill is the future quarterback for the New Orleans Saints

Taysom Hill hasn’t made a start at QB since he was at BYU. And he will now be starting over Jameis Winston this Sunday.

Prayers up 🙏🏼
Because @OldTakesExposed is gonna crash if Taysom Hill actually plays well on Sunday 😂

Saints gave Taysom Hill $16 million in guarantees this offseason with the understanding that he would get a shot eventually. That time is now. Jameis Winston handled practice reps behind Drew Brees all season and did well with them, but Hill became the guy this week.

People should not be surprised at the Taysom Hill news. There's a reason the Saints gave him $16 million in guaranteed money this year, and it's not to be a gadget guy or run down the field on kickoffs.

Taysom Hill’s first start is football twitter’s Super Bowl. We deserve this.

I don’t hate the idea of the Saints finally finding out what Taysom Hill can do as a “traditional” starter since this is likely Brees’ final season — it’s just also tough timing for such a situation to unfold at a time when the NFC South is so tight at the top. Tricky call.

Taysom Hill starting for the Saints over Jameis Winston this weekend speaks to my (unsubstantiated) theory that Sean Payton is bored with the traditional Drew Brees offense and just wants to coach one with a running quarterback like all the other cool teams.
— Dan Wetzel (@DanWetzel) November 20, 2020
Taysom Hill may be older than Brock Osweiler, who just retired after an 8-year NFL career, but he also has 55 fewer career passing attempts than Jake Luton, who played in his first NFL game two weeks ago

The Saints will reportedly go with Taysom Hill this weekend over Jameis Winston:

Taysom Hill signed a two year, $21 million contract with the Saints on April 27th.
The next day, Jameis Winston signed a one year contract with New Orleans worth 1.1 million

Don't know if the Taysom Hill thing will work, assuming he starts. But Sean Payton is one of the great offensive minds of this era. Coached Hill for 3 yrs, Winston for 4 months. He probably has a better feel for who's best to QB his team than outsiders.
Radical thought, I know.— Peter King (@peter_king) November 20, 2020
The #Saints gave a 2-year, $21M contract this offseason, with eyes on him being the future at QB in New Orleans. On Sunday, he’ll get a chance to prove it. Taysom Hill expected to start after working as the starter in practice all week. https://t.co/2NQ9J8xDBE

The Saints are paying Taysom Hill $21M. I don't totally understand the shock that they're starting him this week?

Jameis Winston will throw more passes Sunday than Taysom Hill.
Mark it down. Write it in stone. Do whatever you want to do.
— nick wright (@getnickwright) November 20, 2020
Jameis has 1.8 million in playing time incentives in his contract. For a team that is up against a shrinking cap, the decision to start Taysom Hill could be a financial one.
— Steven Ruiz (@theStevenRuiz) November 20, 2020
Every time I have asked Coach Payton if he believes Taysom Hill is a starting caliber QB in the league, and there have been multiple convos, he has said yes. Without hesitation. Can’t say I’m surprised by this.
— Louis Riddick (@LRiddickESPN) November 20, 2020
Taysom Hill has four more pass attempts in his career than he has tackles.

Taysom Hill is starting? He’s gonna rush for 150 yards!
— Ryan Clark (@Realrclark25) November 20, 2020
I’m telling y’all what’s going to happen. This new offense, where Taysom Hill is running a bunch of “wildcat” plays will work. It works often in the first game you use it. Payton will LOVE it. Hill will be the starting QB next season and this offense will a disaster. https://t.co/wOPD3wn8Hv

Taysom Hill’s journey to starting QB in the NFL began on punt team.
