SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees said that people don’t realize the stress that former BYU signal-caller and Saints backup Taysom Hill puts on an NFL defense.
Brees highlighted Hill’s impact following the Saints’ dismantling of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9. The former BYU quarterback had over 100 yards of total offense in New Orleans’ 38-3 win over Tom Brady and Tampa Bay.
“I think what people don’t realize too, is the stress that that puts on a defense. You know, the defense has to have a plan for when Taysom comes in the game at the quarterback position, and the myriad of things that we can do,” Brees said during a press conference. “We can run read options stuff. We can do RPOs. Sometimes he’s handing off. Sometimes he’s running. Sometimes it’s designed quarterbacks runs. Sometimes we’re throwing. Sometimes it’s short. Sometimes it’s deep.”

The future hall of famer continued to elaborate on Hill’s “big play” ability with the Saints’ offense.
“We have the opportunity to do so many things when he’s in the game,” Brees continued. “When he’s at the quarterback position, it’s just that much more stress on defense and there’s big play opportunities and big play ability there. I think coming off a game like the one we just had against Tampa where Taysom had over 100 total yards of offense, both receiving running and throwing, so that just becomes a great element of the offense.”
