BYU Alumni Mike Weir Shoots Even Par Opening Round At Augusta National

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – BYU alumni and 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir has concluded his first round of the Masters with a first-round score of 72, even par.
Weir is participating in his 21st Masters Tournament and is looking to make the cut for the 12th time in his career.
Mike Weir shoots an even-par 72 at the first round of the Masters. Two late bogeys (on No's 16 and 17) derailed Weir's chances from being under-par at Augusta National for the first time since 2010.

Front Nine
Weir got off to a great start going even par through the first five holes.
Then the Candian caught fire birdieing back-to-back holes on six and seven.
He was quickly brought back down to earth on eight and made the turn at one-under-par.
Back Nine
Weir went even par through the first three holes on the back before he went two-under-par after making birdie on 14.
However, two bogeys on 16 and 17 brought Weir back to even par where he would finish.
Currently, he is in a tie for 46th.

Other Notables
Paul Casey leads the field at seven-under-par.
A pair of Americans in Webb Simpson and Xander Xaueffelle are in a tie for second at five-under-par.
Tiger Woods managed to go bogey-free for the first time on the first day at Augusta in his career and the first time in 106 professional rounds to end with a four-under-par, 68.
Justin Thomas began his day with three consecutive birdies. He is in the midst of his first-round currently.
