Former Utah QB Alex Smith Takes Another Step In NFL Comeback

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah Utes and current Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith took another big step in his NFL comeback.

On Sunday, November 8, Smith tossed his first touchdown pass since suffering a brutal leg injury during the 2018 NFL season.

Here is how all of the players with ties to the state of Utah fared during the ninth week of the season.

Former Utah Utes

Kylie Fitts – Linebacker – Arizona Cardinals (5-3)

The former Utah linebacker had one tackle in Arizona’s 34-31 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The former Utes defensive lineman and the Cardinals suffered a 34-31 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Zack Moss – Running Back – Buffalo Bills (7-2)

The former Utah running back had nine carries for 18 yards and a touchdown. He added two receptions for 30 yards out of the backfield in Buffalo’s 33-34 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Jaylon Johnson – Cornerback – Chicago Bears (5-4)

The former Utes cornerback had two total tackles, one solo tackle, and two pass breakups in the Bears’ 24-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Bradlee Anae – Defensive End – Dallas Cowboys (2-7)

The former Utah defensive end was inactive for the Cowboys’ 24-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The former Utes linebacker and the Cowboys suffered a 24-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The former Utah offensive lineman and the Broncos fell 34-27 to the Atlanta Falcons.

Tim Patrick – Wide Receiver – Denver Broncos (3-5)

John Penisini – Defensive Tackle – Detroit Lions (3-5)

The former Utes defensive lineman and the Lions fell 34-20 to the Minnesota Vikings.

Julian Blackmon – Safety – Indianapolis Colts (5-3)

Marcus Williams – Safety – New Orleans Saints (6-2)

The former Utes defensive back had one tackle, one pass breakup, and one interception in the Saints’ 38-3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jackson Barton – Offensive Tackle – New York Giants (2-7)

The former Utah offensive lineman and the Giants beat the Washington Football Team 23-20.

Mitch Wishnowsky – Punter – San Francisco 49ers (4-5)

The former Utah punter had four punts with an average of 54.8 yards per kick during the Niners’ 34-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football.

Cody Barton – Linebacker – Seattle Seahawks (6-2)

Marquise Blair – Safety – Seattle Seahawks (6-2)

After week two, the former Utah safety was ruled out for the season with a knee injury by Seattle head coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks suffered a 44-34 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
