ST. GEORGE, Utah – High school football playoff games are set to continue despite multiple canceled events in St. George amid a spike in COVID-19 cases.

On Thursday, November 5, the state of Utah announced a record 2,807 people tested positive for the coronavirus disease. In addition, a record 389 people are currently hospitalized because of the virus.

Despite the spike in cases across the state and in St. George, the high school football postseason will go on as scheduled.

The quarterfinals of the high school playoffs are scheduled to take place beginning on Friday, November 6. Snow Canyon and Pine View, which are both located in St. George, are slated to host quarterfinal games.

“The UHSAA continues to work with Dixie State University in ensuring all protocols in the event management are in line with local, regional and statewide protocols to ensure successful mitigation of the COVID-19 virus” a UHSAA spokesperson told KSL Sports. “Both entities are committed to the successful hosting of the UHSAA 2A -5A State Football events at Greater Zions Stadium.”
