LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Real Salt Lake forward Douglas Martinez gave the club some hope late in the second half by scoring their first goal of the match.
In the 78th minute against the Los Angeles Galaxy, Justin Meram ran up the left side of the goal when he served the ball into the box which Martinez met with his head and put the ball into the back of the net. That trimmed LA’s lead to 2-1 after getting goals in the 18th minute from Giancarlo Gonzalez and the 65th minute from Cristian Pavon.
The Honduran scored his second goal of the season and career.

Martinez played in one match with RSL during the 2019 season and had one shot on goal in 64 minutes in that game. This season, he made his 17th appearance coming off the bench. In 2020, Martinez has started in 8 games.
Real Salt Lake needs to draw or win against the Galaxy or their playoff hopes are over as they will be mathematically eliminated from postseason contention. RSL’s last win came on October 14 against Portland. In the last seven matches, Real has won once, tied twice and lost four times.
