49ers LB Fred Warner Calls BYU DB Troy Warner ‘More Talented Brother’ In Football

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner called his sibling and current BYU defensive back Troy Warner “the more talented brother” in football.

The NFL star complimented his little brother following the Niners’ game against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, November 1.

Warner finished the game with  four total tackles, three solo tackles, one tackle for loss and a quarterback hit in 37-27 loss to the Seahawks.

“I could talk all day on Troy. He’s been having a great senior year over at BYU.” the Niners linebacker said postgame. “He’s the more talented brother in the family when it comes to football. I’m excited to see how he finishes out his season and obviously going to the next level. So the sky’s the limit for him.”

Brotherly Love

This is not the first time Fred has praised Troy’s play at BYU. Multiple times throughout BYU’s 2020 season, the 49ers linebacker has compliment his younger brother on social media.

Both brothers decided to spend their time playing college football at BYU. Fred played linebacker for the Cougars from 2014-17. Troy has played for Kalani Sitake since 2016.

About Fred Warner

During his college career at BYU, the elder Warner had 264 total tackles, 158 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks, 1 quarterback hit, 7 interceptions, and 5 fumble recoveries in 49 career games.

Warner received BYU’s Most Valuable Player Award and Captains Award in 2018.

Following his college career, Warner was selected by San Francisco during the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Warner was named as one of the Niners’ captains for the the 2020 season.

Through the Niners’ first eight games of the season, Warner has posted 57 total tackles, 36 solo tackles, two interceptions, and three pass breakups.

San Francisco currently owns a 4-4 record.

About Troy Warner

Through the first seven games of his senior season, the younger Warner brother has helped the Cougars to a No. 9 ranking and a 7-0 record for the first time since 2001.

He’s recorded 21 total tackles, 8 solo tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, a quarterback hit, and a pass breakup.

During his entire BYU, Warner has 113 total tackles, 68 solo tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one quarterback hit, and 15 pass breakups in 42 games.

Warner was selected as one of BYU’s captains this season.
