No. 12 Delta’s Late Touchdown Leads To Upset Win Over No. 4 Richfield

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Delta Rabbits have pulled off two upset victories and continue their run in the 3A playoffs with a 34-28 win over No. 4 Richfield.
Richfield jumped out to a 13-7 lead in the first quarter before Delta scored 14 unanswered in the second. The Rabbits needed a touchdown from Austin Topham to Britton Smith with 33 seconds left to take the lead and eventually the win. Will Finlinson rushed for two TD’s along with one from Smith. For Richfield, Kasey Giddings had two rushing scores and Gavin Brown had one.
Last week, the Rabbits eliminated No. 5 North Sanpete.
Delta will move on the semifinals to battle No. 1 Juab (10-1) on Friday, Nov. 6 at noon MT at Southern Utah University.
Here is all of the results from the quarterfinal round of the 3A state football tournament.
No. 8 San Juan 7 at No. 1 Juab 20
A rushing touchdown from Bodee Blackett and a passing TD from Alex Jackson to Teagen Christensen was all that Juab needed to get by San Juan. Jace Palmer threw a touchdown pass to Ladd Ivins for San Juan.
Juab will advance to the semifinals to face No. 12 Delta (5-7) on Friday, Nov. 6 at noon MT at Southern Utah University.
No. 7 Juan Diego 7 at No. 2 Morgan 28
The Trojans scored 21 points in the third quarter to separate themselves from Juan Diego. Ryder Lish threw two touchdowns to Gavin Turner and Jarron Savage. Tanner Belinski ran in a score, while Tanner Stanley had a pick six. Juan Diego’s only touchdown of the game came in the fourth quarter on a Dominic Lewis run.
Morgan will advance to the semifinals to face No. 6 Granstville (7-5) on Friday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. MT at Southern Utah University.
No. 6 Grantsville 21 at No. 3 Summit Academy 17
Blake Thomas ran in the go-ahead touchdown with three minutes left and the Cowboys’ defense held off Summit Academy to pick up the upset victory. Caleb Sullivan completed a touchdown pass to Noah Mouritsen. Kaden Kelley had a 50-yard scoop and score for Grantsville. For Summit Academy, Joe Garlick found Titan Kilgore for a touchdown. Jaxon Case added a rushing score.
Grantsville will move on to the semifinals to battle No. 2 Morgan (7-2) on Friday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. MT at Southern Utah University.
