SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has put himself in a position to win his second PGA Tour victory after shooting an eight-under round of 64 to be in a tie for fifth entering the weekend at Sherwood Country Club in California.
Yesterday, Finau ended with a 69, three-under-par, to resume his PGA Tour career following a month’s break that included a two-week battle with COVID-19.

Today, however, Finau found the same form that catapulted him into a top ten finish in the U.S. Open earlier in September.
His round consisted of nine birdies and just one bogey teeing off the tenth hole to begin his second round.
Two consecutive birdies on hole 10 and 11 started Finau’s day in style. A par on 12 followed by a birdie on 13 and then his lone bogey came on the par 4, 14th after he missed a seven and a half foot putt to save par.
He would make the turn shooting a three-under-par 33.

The back nine was when Finau solidified himself as a contender this weekend after draining five birdies and providing plenty of momentum heading into the weekend.
Finau is chasing Justin Thomas and Lanto Griffin, who leads all players at 14-under-par, three shots ahead of Finau.
