BYU Pulls Off Perfectly Executed Onside Kick Against Houston
HOUSTON, Texas – With momentum still on the side of Houston, BYU needed another lift moments after scoring a touchdown. The Cougars in blue dialed up an onside kick.
It’s not often you see an onside kick executed in favor of the team attempting the kick, but BYU pulled it off.
Near the end of the third quarter, Oldroyd attempted the onside and BYU executed it masterfully. Special teams ace Talmage Gunther recovered the kick to give BYU possession.

Talmage Gunther is a former Lone Peak High School quarterback. Coming out of fall camp, Gunther received Special Teams MVP honors from Special Teams Coordinator Ed Lamb. The Alpine native is a preferred walk-on currently in the BYU program.
BYU’s offense did not capitalize on the short field as they stalled after Houston sacked Zach Wilson on a third down, giving the ball back to Houston.
BYU’s game vs. Houston is broadcast on ESPN and KSL NewsRadio 1160 AM and 102.7 FM.
