SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – BYU Quarterback Zach Wilson is receiving plenty of national attention for his play so far this season. That’s one thing he will need to be seriously considered for the Heisman Trophy.
“The Heisman Trophy is THE college football award, it is huge,” said Scott Mitchell, former University of Utah quarterback, “It’s the only one that really is talked about all year long, it’s like the polls.”
That is one of Mitchell’s main points about Wilson being in the Heisman conversation – whoever wins MUST be in the conversation all year, like the polls.

“You need as much hype as you can get, BYU needs to really push this,” Mitchell said.
Are Zach Wilson’s Numbers Heisman Worthy?
So far this season Wilson’s Cougars are undefeated. They have won all of their games in convincing fashion.
Wilson has dazzled with his efficiency, his big arm, and his ability when needed. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound quarterback is second in the country in passing efficiency at 221.9 per game. He’s no. 1 in completion percentage at 84.5 percent per game and he finds himself in the top five of yards per pass attempt, points responsible for, passing yards per completion, and rushing touchdowns.

“Zach is playing as good as anyone in the country,” pointed out Mitchell.
But, one of Mitchell’s keys to him staying in the conversation is that he has to keep playing as or more lights out than he currently is, he can’t experience a drop-off, even for one week.
“Zach has to put up crazy numbers each week to have any shot. They should keep him in games as long as they can. Lavell Edwards ran up the score back in the day,” Mitchell argued.
Key’s For Zach Wilson’s Path To Heisman
Mitchell laid out his keys for Wilson to stay in the Heisman Trophy conversation.
