West Pulls Off Massive Upset Over No. 5 Kearns

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The West Panthers picked up a big win on Friday night after handing No. 5 Kearns a 26-17 loss.
It’s the first loss for Kearns this season. The Cougars had a 14-10 halftime lead but only managed to score 3 points in the second half. West dropped 16 points in the final two quarters.
Carson Lopati threw two touchdown passes to Sesi Vailahi and Clarence Bird Butler. Bird Butler also ran in a touchdown on the ground. For Kearns, Iosefa Toia’ivao threw a TD pass to Joe Alusa. Naki Leha added a rushing score.

Here are all of the results in the 6A classification from the ninth week of the high school football season.
Region 1
Clearfield 14 at Syracuse 20
Clearfield had a 14-6 lead in the fourth quarter before the Titans scored two unanswered touchdowns in the final quarter to pick up the win. Trevor Drake threw the game-winning TD pass to Colin Sierra with 33 seconds left. That was Drake’s only TD of the game. Chandler Christensen had a rushing TD. For Clearfield, Bransen Simper accounted for both of their touchdowns, one pass to Nixon Dayley and ran in one as well.
Fremont 30 at No. 18 Davis 26
A thrilling upset win for Fremont on the road. The Darts were up by three points in the final seconds when Hayden Hall ran in the game-winning touchdown with 16 seconds left. The other touchdowns came through the air with Cannon Kofford and Kyler Kotter each throwing a TD to Jaxson McFarland and Tage Bingham. Kotter also had a 98-yard kick return for a touchdown. For Davis, Spencer Ferguson ran in three scores on the ground. Chance Trujillo connected with David Spjut for the only TD through the air.
Northridge 0 at Layton 7
In a defensive battle, Sione Vailahi ran in a 50-yard touchdown in the third quarter to give Layton the win.
No. 4 Roy at No. 13 Weber
This game has been canceled due to COVID-19.
Region 2
Hunter 41 at Cyprus 7
The Wolverines scored all 41 points before the Pirates found the end zone. Josh Harding accounted for four touchdowns, three passing and one rushing. He threw two TD’s to Xandre Hill and one to Nathan Suaste. Omarion Jackson added a rushing TD. Cyprus’ only touchdown came on the ground from Malakai Boykins.
West Jordan at Granger

Region 3
Bingham 49 at Jordan 0
The Miners scored two touchdowns in each of the first, second and fourth quarters and one TD in the third. Troy Mehn threw two touchdowns to Gage Sundloff and Jackson Wheeler. Mehn also ran in a touchdown. Coda Guevara, Nathan Elison and Trey Ackerman each scored a TD on the ground.
East 36 at No. 17 Riverton 20
The Leopards picked up a big upset win on the road. They jumped out to a 22-7 lead in the first half. Izaak Zimmerman threw a touchdown pass to Siona Vailahi. On the ground, Luliano Sula, Mapa Vaenuku and Sau Tafisi each had a rushing score. Voi Tunuufi had a 70-yard fumble recovery for a TD. For Riverton, Colby Barton had three passing TD’s, two to Brayden Hunkin and one to Josh Jacobsen.
Herriman 35 at Copper Hills 7
The Mustangs scored 21 unanswered points before Copper Hills scored their lone TD. All of Herriman’s TD’s came on the ground, two from Jack White and one from Caden Syddall, Chawezi and Ephraim Asiata. Tommy Peake threw Copper Hills’ only touchdown.
Region 4
No. 1 Corner Canyon 29 at No. 3 Skyridge 26
A classic Region 4 showdown on Thursday night saw the Chargers keep their winning streak alive in comeback fashion. With one minute left in the fourth, Corner Canyon took a three-point lead. Skyridge was at the 6-yard line when McCae Hillstead was tackled at the two-yard line as time expired. Jaxson Dart threw four touchdowns, two to Cody Hagen and one to each Jett Meine and Noah Kjar for the Chargers. For Skyridge, Hillstead threw three touchdowns and ran in another. He connected with James Palmer, Mitch Adamson and Teagan Calton.

No. 2 Lone Peak 48 at No. 7 American Fork 45
On Thursday, Lone Peak trailed for most of the first half before scoring 33 points in the second half to pick up the win over American Fork. Jonah Heimuli threw all four of his touchdown passes to Weston Covey. Luke Durfey ran in two touchdowns and Eli Cloward found the end zone on the ground once for the Knights. For American Fork, Maddux Madsen found Fisher Ingersoll for four touchdowns and one to Noah Moeaki. Cache Abo ran in a TD in the loss.
No. 10 Pleasant Grove 26 at Westlake 18
On Thursday, Pleasant Grove held a 13-3 lead at halftime. Westlake outscored PG 15-13 in the second half. Aaron Jones ran in a touchdown while Rex Connors threw a TD to his brother Porter. Westlake had a touchdown pass from Brayden Ross to James Maxwell. Kanyon Lee added a rushing TD.
Non-Region
Timpanogos 21 at Taylorsville 42
The Warriors had a 35-7 lead entering the fourth quarter and that was all they needed to secure the win. Humani Wolfgramm threw three touchdowns to Brison Peisley twice and once to Braxton Bates. On the ground, Bates had a score as well as one apiece from Danny Villa and Manu Faleola. For Timpanogos, Matu Holdaway connected with Trevor Herrick for a TD and Kaden Harvey added a rushing touchdown.
