Davis Darts
The Darts have had two losing seasons since 2015 but are on the rise again. In 2015, they went 9-0 in the regular season but lost in the first round of the playoffs to Fremont by one point.
In 2016, the Darts went 7-4 with a first round exit. 2017 was a tough year after winning just one game. Two seasons ago, 7-4 was the record for Davis after reaching the second round before losing to Lone Peak in the second round.
Last season was a tough one for Davis, going 4-6 and lost to Westlake in the first round of the playoffs. This season, Davis won their first 5 games of the season over Herriman, Viewmont, Northridge, Clearfield and Layton before losing to Roy by one point after missing the potential game-winning field goal. Last week they beat Syracuse, 42-6.
Chance Trujillo is a true threat in the pass and run game for the Darts. On the year, he has thrown for 1,380 yards, 17 touchdowns and just one interception, while also running the ball 34 times for 270 yards and 6 TD’s.
Davis’ leading rusher is Spencer Ferguson who has passed the 1,000 yard mark with 1,096 yards and 12 touchdowns. David Spjut is a big time pass catcher for the Darts with 37 receptions for 788 yards and 8 touchdowns. Owen Murdock has 22 catches for 333 yards and 6 scores.
On defense, eight different players have a sack, led by Ephraim Fiso and Mason Rigby with 2.5 sacks each. Davis has 5 interceptions this season with Austin Frasure hauling in two of them.
Weber Warriors
Since 2015, Weber has gradually improved their program. In 2015 and 2016, the Warriors went 3-6 on the season and didn’t reach the postseason. The 2017 season was a huge improvement as Weber went 9-2 after appearing in the 6A quarterfinals, falling to Lone Peak.
Two years ago, the Warriors went 7-4 with another appearance in the quarterfinals, this time losing to American Fork. Last season, Weber went 6-4. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs after losing to Layton by one point.
Jake Lindsay has passed for 1,093 yards, 12 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He also has 46 carries for 318 yards and two TD’s. Cannon DeVries is their leading receiver with 17 catches for 362 yards and 5 touchdowns. Utah football recruiting target Aisea Moa is the sack leader with 3. DeVries also has 7 interceptions this season. The next highest total is one from 5 players.
The game will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and will be broadcast on KSLSports.com and the KSL TV app.
