No. 11 Bingham Avoids Upset With Comeback Overtime Win Over East

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The 11th ranked Bingham Miners avoided the upset as they picked up a big road win in overtime over East, 29-28.

The Miners trailed 21-7 in the third quarter before scoring two unanswered TD’s to force overtime. In the extra period, Amini Amone put the Leopards up after finding the end zone. Bingham answered with a touchdown and a two-point conversion to win the game. Troy Mehn threw two touchdown passes to Isaiah Glasker and Parker Gurr. Saia Lomu ran in a TD.

For the Leopards, Amone ran in two rushing touchdowns while Luliano Sula and Mapa Vaenuku each added a score on the ground.

Here is all of the results in the 6A classification from the seventh week of the high school football season.

Region 1

No. 9 Davis 42 at Syracuse 6

After losing their first game of the season last week, Davis bounced back nicely. The Darts scored 35 unanswered points. Trevor Drake ran in Syracuse’s only touchdown of the game. Davis was led by Chance Trujillo with four total touchdowns, three passing and one rushing. He connected with David Spjut twice and Jake Maw once. Caden Blackner and Spencer Ferguson each added one rushing TD.

Fremont 17 at Weber 20

Weber needed a touchdown by Johnny McKinney with five minutes left to get past Fremont. The Warriors scored first before the Silverwolves scored 10 straight points. Entering the fourth quarter, Weber held a 14-10 lead. Both teams went on to score one more touchdown each. For Weber, Jake Lindsay threw one touchdown pass to Cannon DeVries. McKinney ran in two TD’s. Fremont had two touchdown passes from Cannon Kofford to Jacob Palmer and Jake Stephens.

Northridge 31 at No. 4 Roy 50

After the Royals took a 22-14 halftime lead, they outscored Northridge 28-17 in the second half to pick up the win. Roy had two rushing touchdowns each from Cade Harris, Parker Kingston and Izzy Gordon. Northridge picked up three rushing TD’s from Bryce Hughes while Easton Gertge threw a touchdown to Brooks Ashton.

Region 2

Granger 0 at Cyprus 10

A field goal and a 39-yard touchdown run by Jhdhan Lester gave the Pirates their second win of the season at home and the shutout on Thursday night.

No. 7 Kearns 35 at Hunter 21

The Cougars jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. After that each team scored one touchdown in each of the final three quarters. Iosefa Toia’ivao threw two touchdowns and ran in two scores. He connected with Keishaun Dudley both times. Naki Leha added a rushing TD. For Hunter, Josh Harding scored all three touchdowns, one through the air to Xandre Hill and ran into the end zone twice.

West 58 at Taylorsville 21

The Panthers had a 24-14 lead at the half and took over from that point with 34 points in the second half. Taylorsville received three passing TD’s from Humani Wolfgramm, finding Dalton Jamison, Tristan Rosenau and Brison Peisley. For West, Carson Lopati passed for four touchdowns, two to both Clarence Bird Butler and Sesi Vailahi. Efotikola Vaenuku and Johnny Alo each ran in a TD.

Region 3

Herriman 41 at Jordan 0

The Mustangs scored 29 points in the first half and coasted to the shutout win. Malakai Hoeft had an 80-yard pick six while also getting to the end zone on a scoop and score. Jack White threw two touchdown passes to Caden Syddall and Hoeft. Strider Fountaine added a rushing TD.

Region 4

Westlake 13 at No. 7 American Fork 52

The game was tied at 7 at the end of the first quarter and the Cavemen held a 21-13 advantage at the half. From there, American Fork scored 31 straight points in the second half. The Thunder picked up two TD’s through the air from Brayden Ross, connecting with Thomas Davis twice. For American Fork, Maddux Madsen passed for two touchdowns and running in one. Ryan Evans also threw a TD, the duo found Cash Abo, Hunter Clegg and Trevor Cullimore for TD’s. Brendon Bourgeois added a score on the ground.

Non-Region

Farmington 14 at Clearfield 17

Clearfield scored first before Farmington tied the game at the halftime break. Both teams scored one touchdown apiece in the third quarter. The difference came in the fourth quarter when Josh Loufiso kicked a field goal to give them the lead for good. The Falcons had a touchdown from Bransen Simper to Nixon Dayley along with a rushing TD from Joshua Qualls. The Phoenix had a rushing touchdown from both Creyton Jones and Drew Patterson.
