No. 20 Wasatch Upsets No. 13 Maple Mountain Behind Edwards’ Seven Touchdowns

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The No. 20 Wasatch Wasps took advantage of home field advantage and upset the No. 13 Maple Mountain Golden Eagles 49-20 on Friday evening.

No. 13 Maple Mountain 20 No. 20 Wasatch 49

Wasatch jumped out to 35-13 lead in the first half and limited Maple Mountain to one score in the second half to win by 29 points.

Wasps quarterback Adarius Edwards threw seven touchdowns in the upset. Wasatch’s Jarin Kalama was on the receiving end of four of Edwards’ touchdown passes.

Maple Mountain’s Tyler Nelson tossed a pair of TD passes in the loss.

Here is all of the results in the 5A classification from the sixth week of the high school football season.

Region 5

Bountiful 14 No. 19 Bonneville 24

The No. 19 Bonneville Lakers used an 18-point second quarter to propel themselves to a 10-point victory over the Bountiful Braves on Friday evening. Bonneville’s Kamen Best and Bo Dixon each ran in a touchdown in the 24-14 win.

Viewmont 14 Box Elder 29

The Box Elder Bees stung the Viewmont Vikings and won 29-14 on Friday. The Bees scored 15 points in the second quarter to take control of the game in the first half. Box Elder maintained control by limiting the Vikings to one touchdown in the second half. Box Elder’s Parker Buchanan accounted for three touchdowns in the game.

Woods Cross 13 Farmington 15

The Farminton Phoenix owned a 15-0 lead at halftime which proved to be enough for a two-point win as the Woods Cross Wildcats’ comeback attempt fell short on Friday night. The Wildcats failed to convert the game-tying score on a two-point conversion attempt with under two minutes left to play. Farmington’s Caden Reynolds had a rushing touchdown in the game.

Region 6

Olympus 40 Highland 24

The Olympus Titans dropped 26 points on the Highland Rams in the second quarter to power their way to a 40-24 win on Friday. Titans quarterback Tommy Hoggan threw a trio of touchdown passes in the win.

No. 16 Skyline 63 Murray 10

The No. 16 Skyline Eagles blasted the Murray Spartans 63-10 on Friday night. The Eagles scored 35 of their 63 points during the second quarter to take a 42-10 lead into the locker room at halftime. Skyline’s defense pitched a shutout in the final 24 minutes of action. Eagles quarterback Braxton Bolingbroke tossed six touchdowns in the blowout.

Region 7

Alta 41 Mountain Ridge 26

After trailing the Mountain Ridge Sentinels 13-7 at the halftime break, the Alta Hawks stormed back with 28 points in the third quarter to take control of the scoreboard. Mountain Ridge scored 13 points in the final 12 minutes of action compared to Alta’s six but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Hawks. Alta’s Ethan Jackson and Ayden Helm each accounted for a pair of touchdowns in the contest.

Region 8

No. 15 Salem Hills 41 Spanish Fork 34

The No. 15 Salem Hills SkyHawks scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to come from behind and beat the Spanish Fork Dons by seven points on Friday night. Jarret Elmer threw six touchdowns passes to lead the SkyHawks to a 41-34 victory.

Non-Region

No. 7 Brighton 28 Springville 21

The No. 7 Brighton Bengals owned a seven-point lead at halftime and rode the margin to victory over the Springville Red Devils. The Bengals held a 28-21 lead at the break, which turned out to be the final score after both teams went scoreless in the second half. Brighton’s Gabe Curtis ran in a pair of touchdowns in the game.

Cyprus (6A) 6 Timpview 58

The Timpview Thunderbirds picked up their second win of the season with a 58-6 blowout victory over the Cyprus Pirates. The T-Birds scored 46 of their 58 points in the first 24 minutes of action. Timpview’s Micah Beckstead and Liu Aumavae were each responsible for a pair of touchdowns in the contest.

Hillcrest 7 Payson 37

The Payson Lions blasted the Hillcrest Huskies 37-7 on Friday. The Lions went up 28-o in the first half and coasted to the 30-point victory.

No. 14 Lehi 35 Provo 21

The No. 14 Lehi Pioneers held a seven-point lead over the Provo Bulldogs as the two teams entered the fourth quarter. The Pioneers outscored the Bulldogs 14-7 over the final 12 minutes of action for a 35-21 win. Lehi quarterback Creyton Cooper tossed three touchdowns in the win.

Timpanogos 27 Cottonwood 40

The Cottonwood Colts scored 30 of their 40 points during the second half to beat the Timpanogos Timberwolves 40-27 on Friday night. Joseph Madrigal ran in a pair of touchdowns for the Colts in the 13-point win.
