PROVO, Utah – BYU football’s trip to Army West Point on September 19th is postponed. BYU’s athletic department announced the postponement on Saturday.
“As a result of a small number of positive COVID-19 test results and the resulting tracing exposures within the BYU football program, a mutual decision was made to postpone the football game on Sept. 19 between Army and BYU. The decision was made after consultation with the BYU administration, state public health officials and medical advisors, and in coordination with the leadership at Army West Point.”

BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe released a statement on the postponement, “We appreciate the university administration, state health officials and a variety of medical experts who have helped us navigate these unprecedented times. While we share the disappointment of everyone involved in the game between BYU and Army, safety as well as the physical and mental well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the opposing team is our top priority.”
Both #BYU and Army have open dates on November 28th. Hopefully, both programs get this game rescheduled. Was going to be the first-time the two schools have ever faced off in football.#BYUFootball @kslsports

New York state has a travel restriction for individuals traveling from the state of Utah entering New York that require 14-day quarantines. With a small number of positive COVID-19 test results, it ultimately led to a postponement of the game. Sources tell KSL Sports that Tom Holmoe addressed BYU’s football team on Saturday to inform them of the postponement before announcing to the public.
The two programs will now work together to try and reschedule the contest. Both teams have openings during the Thanksgiving weekend on November 28th.
BYU’s next scheduled football game will be on September 26th against Troy in Provo in front of 6,000 fans at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
