SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former BYU quarterback Taysom Hill was listed as the backup quarterback behind Drew Brees for the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints released their depth chart on Monday and Hill was named the backup QB and former No. 1 overall draft pick Jameis Winston was the third string quarterback.
Winston was signed by the Saints during the off-season which created a battle for the backup spot behind Brees. Last season, Teddy Bridgewater was the No. 2 quarterback. Brees missed some time due to injury and Bridgewater had some great performances.

That led to Bridgewater signing with the Carolina Panthers and becoming their starting quarterback for the 2020 season. Hill received a new contract from the Saints during this past off-season. Saints head coach Sean Payton likes to use Hill in other positions during games and is often called the “Swiss Army Knife.”
Also on the depth chart, Hill was listed as the No. 2 kick returner on special teams so despite being the backup quarterback, Hill will still be used in different ways than just a signal caller.
New Orleans will open the 2020 season on Sunday, September 13 at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
